Cinkate as a "Bridge"

Cinkate envisions itself as a hybrid foreign/domestic pharmaceutical company.  By developing strong business skills in China and forming a vehicle for successful IP based drug development, Cinkate has cultivated a productive business model from a mostly theoretical concept over the past 10 years. A natural extension of this concept is for Cinkate to offer this "bridge" function to companies interested in entering the Chinese pharmaceutical market.

The ability of Cinkate to successfully develop and launch a state of the art new product (Airohua®) in China, defend its exclusivity status for six years, and negotiate the regulatory and marketing requirements for commercial profitability speaks solidly for this business model. Thus, the bridge concept was initiated at the early stage of drug development for Airohua®.

Initiating the bridge concept for product marketing at a later stage of the business cycle is validated by the partnership between Cinkate and the Genzyme subsidiary, Genzyme Biosurgical. In 2003, we began a collaboration with Gensyme Biosurgical to market and distribute its osteoarthritis viscosupplementation treatment, Synvisc®.

Through this arrangement, Genzyme Biosurgery, a company with international reach and previous experience in the Chinese pharmaceutical marketplace, trusted the strength of the Cinkate strategy and the ability of its sales and marketing teams to execute this strategy.  Cinkate has managed to correct the problems Genzyme encountered with its previous domestic partner in China and is now poised for sustained sales growth through physician education and improved product placement at the physician-patient interface.  Although the challenges facing Synvisc® are quite different from those faced by Airohua®, the working relationship with Genzyme Biosurgical has benefited from the expertise of both parties and illustrates the value of an alliance of companies with shared business values, complementary expertise and free and open communications.

This bridge concept is now being expanded to include a broader group of drug products and to include drug products owned by Western companies, but are still in late stage development.    Cinkate and its partners see this concept as a powerful catalyst for drug development that will benefit both the companies owning these products as well as the citizens of China and the west; a true win-win..
